Renovated former church is ready for its next phase
This former church has come a long way since 2013. Back then, the front walls were crumbling and the rain was coming through the roof. Today, it’s a renovated open-plan space with 9m catherald ceilings with exposed trusses and plenty of potential for a residential or commercial use. A stonemason has restored and reshaped the original porphyry stone walls to create an ashlar pattern base to the new rendered block fence at the front of the property, the roof has been repaired and the interior and exterior walls repainted in a combination of charcoal and heritage white.
The floors polished were darkened using a pre-polish ‘brown japan’ stain to contrast the heritage white walls and lift the VJ radiata pine vaulted ceiling and trusses. The bathroom was revamped, and the stained glass windows repaired, or replaced in line with the original, 100-year-old designs.
Out the back of the church, colour has been injected into the private oasis style gardens, further enhanced with an custom-made entertainment area featuring a back-lit timber lounge with colourful cushions floating over a tiled charcoal herringbone terrace area.
Now it is a blank canvas ready for further transformation, and the church’s zoning makes it suitable for multiple uses. A mezzanine floor could be added, and the back of the church could be opened up for further development.
The property has a rear garden and parking spaces for eight vehicles. It’s also private and secure, with all windows protected by iron bars designed to mirror the stain glass. Other features of the property include a kitchen, two side rooms suitable for use as offices, two sets of sryian cedar timber gates and several eye-catching handmade Moroccan lanterns.
